🔁 Remember the Two-Way Loop

One minute to refresh. Then the practice begins.

Technology means the tools and machines people make to do work. Climate change means a long-term shift in the average weather.

Here is the loop Mr. EdLo drew on the board:

⚙️ TECHNOLOGY tools & machines 🌡️ WARMER PLANET Some technology RELEASES greenhouse gases vehicles · factories · refrigeration Other technology SLOWS the warming solar panels · electric buses · efficient stoves

The two-way climate loop — technology sits on BOTH sides.

🔥 One way: a diesel generator burns fuel and adds greenhouse gases — gases (mainly CO₂) that trap heat in the atmosphere like a blanket.

💧 The other way: the hydro dams on the Macal River make electricity without burning any fuel at all.

Belize releases very little greenhouse gas compared to the world — but our low coastline, coral reef, and hurricane season mean we feel climate change strongly. That is why this lesson matters here at home.

🔥 Technology that BURNS fuel → greenhouse gases → traps heat → the planet warms
🌿 Technology that AVOIDS burning → fewer emissions → warming slows down

Technology is not automatically good or bad. It depends on whether it burns fossil fuels or replaces them.
